Who you’re actually hiring

OPS Forestry Mulching Division LLC is James Bulfer. He runs the machines, he looks at the jobs, and he’s the one who answers the phone. There is no sales department between you and the person doing the work.

That shows up in the reviews more than anywhere else. People mention that he communicates, that he shows up when he says he will, and that he’ll travel for a job worth doing. Those are the things that matter when you’re handing someone the keys to your property for a few days.

Twenty-five years of it

The business runs on 25+ years of hands-on land work across North Central Illinois — forestry mulching, land clearing, right-of-way work, site preparation, grading, driveways, ponds, curbing, and snow in the winter.

Where we work from

The yard is in Ohio, Illinois, in northern Bureau County. From there the regular working radius covers the Illinois Valley, Lee and Whiteside counties to the north, and DeKalb to the east. For bigger jobs he travels up to about two hours: the Quad Cities, Rockford, Peoria, Bloomington-Normal, Galesburg and Macomb.

How do I get an estimate?

Call or text, or send the form on the contact page. The details that help most up front: roughly how many acres, how thick it is, what’s growing on it, whether a truck and trailer can get in, and when you’d like it done.

How far do you travel?

Regular work runs from the Illinois Valley north to Sterling and Dixon, east toward DeKalb, and west into the Quad Cities. Outside that, it’s still worth asking — travel for a job that justifies it isn’t a problem.

Do you work year-round?

Yes. Mulching and clearing carry on through the colder months, and winter is often the better time for it — the ground is firm, there are no leaves in the way, and you can see what you’re working with. Snow plowing runs through the same season.

What size jobs do you take?

Anything from a single overgrown lot up to multi-acre clearing and full site work. Smaller jobs closer to home are easy to fit in; smaller jobs at the far edge of the service area are best paired with other work in the same week.

How It Works

Call or Text

Call or text (815) 240-9065 or send the form. Roughly how many acres, what is growing and whether a truck and trailer can get in.

We Look at the Ground

James looks at the ground before he gives you a number, so the estimate fits the job in front of him.

The Work Gets Done

We agree on what comes out and what stays. Then the machines go to work, with James running them.

Ground You Can Use

You are left with ground you can walk, mow, build on or farm, and the topsoil stays where it belongs.
