Gravel Driveway Installation & Repair in Ottawa, Illinois
A gravel drive that holds up is built from the bottom: topsoil out, a solid base, a crown, and somewhere for the water to go. That is the work we do around Ottawa.

Driveway Installation around Ottawa
We cut in new gravel driveways, build farm lanes, set culverts where a drive crosses a ditch, and fix drives that have rutted, potholed or washed out.
James runs the equipment himself. You call one number, you talk to the operator, and the person who quotes the job is the one who builds it.
Most of our driveway calls in La Salle County come from acreage homes, farm ground and shops outside town, where a drive can run a long way back from the road.
The driveway installation and repair page explains our approach in full. Call (815) 240-9065 with the address and what is going wrong.

What the job covers
- New gravel driveways cut in from the road
- Topsoil stripped and base built and compacted
- Culverts set where the drive crosses a ditch
- Farm lanes and field access
- Regrading and re-stoning rutted drives
- Turnarounds and parking pads
- Crown and ditch work so water sheds off
Driveway Installation in Ottawa: what to know
Entrances off state routes and county roads
Ottawa has several state routes running through it, including IL 23, IL 71 and US 6. A new drive onto a state highway goes through an Illinois Department of Transportation access permit.
Off a county or township road, call the La Salle County highway department or the township road commissioner about the entrance and the culvert. Inside city limits, start with the City of Ottawa. Confirm what applies before the first load of rock arrives.
Repairing a drive that keeps failing
Potholes, ruts and washboard are signs, not the problem. Usually the base has broken down or water is sitting on the drive instead of running off it.
If the base is sound, we regrade and add stone. If it is gone, we rebuild it first, or the holes come back by spring. Our guide to fixing a gravel driveway walks through the difference.
A place with long history and long lanes
Ottawa is the La Salle County seat and hosted the first Lincoln and Douglas debate in 1858. It also grew up alongside the Illinois and Michigan Canal.
Plenty of the farmsteads around it have lanes that have been driven on for generations. Old lanes often have no real base left. We can rebuild one on the same line, so it stays where it belongs but carries modern trucks and equipment.
What drives the price
Length, width, how much topsoil comes out, how much base and stone go in, and whether a culvert is needed. A repair costs less than a new drive when the base is still good.
Send photos and the address and we will look at it. The gravel driveway cost guide explains the rest.

Who approves a new driveway entrance near Ottawa?
IDOT for a state highway, the La Salle County highway department or township road commissioner for county and township roads, and the City of Ottawa inside city limits. Check before work starts.
Can you rebuild an old farm lane outside Ottawa?
Yes. We strip out the soft material, build a compacted base, set culverts where needed and resurface it.
Do you repair gravel drives in La Salle County that keep washing out?
Yes. Washouts are usually a crown and ditch problem. We reshape the drive so water runs off to the sides and give the ditch somewhere to go.
How do I get a driveway price in the Ottawa area?
Call (815) 240-9065 or use the form with photos and the address. Length, base work and culverts drive the price, so we look before we quote.
