Pond Building around Streator
We build new ponds and renovate old ones. Fishing ponds, farm ponds, livestock ponds and ponds that have filled in with silt are all work we take on.
James runs the machines himself from the yard in Ohio, Illinois. The person who walks your ground is the same person who digs it.
One thing makes this town different on paper. Streator sits in both La Salle and Livingston counties, so the right offices to call depend on which side of the line your land is on.
Our pond building and renovation page covers how we work. If the site needs clearing, see land clearing in Streator. Call (815) 240-9065 to talk about your site.

Pond Building in Streator: what to know
Two counties, two sets of offices
Inside city limits, start with the City of Streator. Outside town, call the zoning office for La Salle or Livingston County, whichever your land is in. The soil and water conservation district for that county can help with soils and siting.
If there is a dam, the Illinois DNR Office of Water Resources runs the state dam safety program. If the pond touches a stream or wetland, ask the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Confirm what applies before work starts.
Coal country history
Streator grew on coal mining, starting in the 1860s, and the last mines closed in 1958. Later it was known for glass made from local silica sandstone.
Old land use can leave surprises below the surface. Tell us what you know about the history of your parcel, and we will factor it in when we look at the site.
New pond or renovation
If there is already a pond, cleaning it out is often the first thing to price. The basin and dam are there, and the work is getting silt out and fixing banks and the outlet.
If the old pond is in the wrong spot or the dam is failing, starting over may make more sense. Our guide to renovation versus a new pond walks through the choice.
The parts of a pond that fail
Most pond trouble comes from three places. A dam that was not packed as it went up. An overflow that is too small. Banks cut too steep, which slump into the water every spring.
We build the dam in layers and pack each one. We put in an overflow pipe for normal rain and a grassed spillway for big storms. Then we shape and finish the banks so they hold.
