Gravel Driveway Installation & Repair in Sterling, Illinois
A gravel drive should not need a load of rock every spring. If yours does, the problem is under the stone, and that is where we start.

Driveway Installation around Sterling
We install new gravel driveways, build farm lanes, set culverts, and repair drives that have gone to ruts, potholes and washboard.
James does the work himself, so you get the same person from the first look to the final pass with the grader.
Work here covers Sterling, Rock Falls across the river, and the farm ground around both. Whiteside County is heavily farmed, so lanes and shop drives are a big share of the calls.
The gravel driveway installation and repair page covers our method. Call (815) 240-9065 with the address.

- New gravel drives for homes, shops and sheds
- Farm lanes to fields, bins and buildings
- Topsoil removal and compacted base
- Culvert installation where a drive crosses a ditch
- Driveway repair, regrading and fresh stone
- Turnarounds and parking areas
Driveway Installation in Sterling: what to know
Entrances off state, county and township roads
IL 2 begins in Sterling at IL 40, and other state routes pass through the area. A new drive onto a state highway needs an Illinois Department of Transportation access permit.
Whiteside County's Highway and Public Works department maintains the county highways. For a county or township road, call them or the township road commissioner about the entrance and culvert. Inside city limits, check with the City of Sterling. Confirm before work starts.
Shop drives and equipment lots
A drive that carries trucks and equipment needs a deeper base than a house drive. Turning loads tear up a thin base fast.
We build the base to suit what will run on it, then shape a turnaround or parking area that drains instead of holding puddles.
Where a lot meets a building, we grade it to fall away from the doors. Water that sits against a shop wall or freezes in front of an overhead door is a problem every winter.
When repair is enough
If the base is still sound, a regrade and fresh stone will put a drive back in shape in short order. If the base is gone, it has to be rebuilt first.
We check before we quote, so you are not paying for rock that disappears by next spring. Our gravel driveway cost guide explains what moves the number.
Other work on the same trip
A drive is often part of a bigger job. Grading for a shed pad, clearing a fence row, or opening up an overgrown lot.
Doing it together saves hauling equipment twice. See forestry mulching and land clearing in Sterling for the clearing side, and in winter we plow long rural drives as well.

Do you install driveways in Rock Falls too?
Yes. Sterling and Rock Falls are worked as one area, along with the farm ground around both.
Who approves a new entrance onto a Whiteside County road?
IDOT for state highways, Whiteside County Highway and Public Works or the township road commissioner for other rural roads, and the City of Sterling inside city limits.
Can you build a lane for heavy farm equipment near Sterling?
Yes. We build a thicker base for heavy loads, set culverts and crown the lane so it drains.
Why is my gravel drive in Whiteside County covered in washboard?
Washboard usually means loose stone with little fine material to bind it, or a base that has broken down. Regrading with the right stone fixes the first. The second needs base work.
What should I send for a Sterling driveway estimate?
